Big gardens are lovely and lots of homeowners have one on their wishlist. It’s challenging to know what to do with them once you have one, though. Here are some ideas for planting a big garden area:

• Make it into a terraced garden if it is sloped. This will break the garden up into different areas and zones to give you variety.
• Vary the garden between plants, flowers and grasses. They will all bloom and flourish at different times of the year, so there will be something of interest all year round.
• Let the garden take over. You can only plan to a certain extent. Let the plants take over and fill their own space.
• Mix and mingle plants together. Don’t be afraid to try out different colours next to each other. Splashes of vivid colour can look beautiful. Perennial sunflowers are a popular border flower for colour and brightness.
